On the DesignSpark forum many people are asking why a STEP file is locked and can't be updated when imported in DSMech.
And they are right to think that this is a very bad point !
I completely agree and I hope the developers will allow STEP modifications in future versions. DSMech will gain popularity if they do so !
But there's a solution and it's called SketchUp...
Edited 29/04/2014 : there's a much easier way as mentioned by Didier in the comments. Thanks Didier !

Recently Gael uploaded the "Chest" parts for InMoov.
Among all the parts the plexus is made of two parts with the words "InM" and "oov" on them.
To create these parts he used a boolean operation in Blender.
But Blender didn't do a good job and the resulting parts were full of small artifacts and "spikes".
I then contacted Gael to ask him if he wanted me to try to do it better...

The UP! software doesn't allow for raft smaller than 2mm. But you can still disable it.
Compared to other slicers I have used (Kisslicer, Skeinforge) the UP! raft is very thick !
The UP! raft structure is made of tunnels and so far it has proved to be efficient. But making such a thick raft is a big waste of material ! (could it be a commercial strategy ?)
Let's see how to print with just a single layer raft...

One of the thing I liked on the different videos of the UP! I've seen is it's original filament unrolling system. It used a very clever system with a dedicated motor that could free some filament from the spool when needed. It seems that this feature has disappeared, or maybe it's an option.
The fact is that the UP! I'm testing doesn't come with it and the way the spool gets hold could be improved...
So I decided to build up a better spool holder.
